What a great day. It is in the 60's today and beautiful sunshine here in the Texas Hill Country. The camelids sure enjoy roaming around and chew on the first signs of green :)
I added a new member to our family. This is George Jr.the little dachshund. I picked him up from San Antonio a couple of days ago and he is already part of the K-9 Clan with his little self. I totally forgot the joy of having a puppy, it's been 20 years since I had my last puppy. The fun and smiles he provides all throughout the day is absolutely amazing.
I am in the process taking pictures of my new artistic "Kosmic Kritters". Stay tuned and be amazed :)

Using Resources in a Great Way

Check out these great leashes / leads that I put together. They are awesome and made super sturdy so they are also used for the camelids. I first prepared the camelid fiber and spun it in a bulky fashion. After that I knit it in a "cord" design, a sturdy metal clasp finished the leash. A little silver llama/alpaca charm was added at the grip loop to give it the complete flair.
There are also very soft alpaca leads the I made for smaller dogs.( very luxurious :))
It amazes me every day to see the possibilities these great animals have.
I remember when I aquired my first llamas and people asking me "What do you do with LLamas???" well here is at least one more reson to own them. Just look at the great color variety, it is just amazing.

Oh, wow what a summer this was. We are all very happy here at the ranch that we wake up to quite cooler mornings and even during the day it is not warmer then 80 degrees.
I love the spring and fall in Texas. We even had a pretty good down poor of rain a few days ago and it amazes me how the ground greened up after it. After this very dry summer everything around here pretty much looked like a big dirt pit, now the green grass is emerging and it is the end of October. Amazing:)
Our llama "Smile" is getting ready for the birth of her cria and I am sure she probably is thankful for the cool weather more then anyone else.
I have been pretty busy trying to get the art down on web design (by no means professional) and it is coming along slowly but surely. You can visit my creation (so far) at www.texasherbcompany.com .
It will be a wool spinning day today, I also have been using my artistic skill to create beautyfull fabric flowers out of upcycled fabric scraps. Pictures will be posted soon. Stay tune for all the great new things.

It sure has been a hot and dry summer this year in Texas and I am so excited that this morning it was 71 degrees :) Hopefully it will cool down a little now and maybe the rain will find us also ? I am of course busy perfecting the Plantfood and it is coming along extremely well .

Drying Manure in Process :)

I added 2 compost bins to be able to also create composted Camelid Manure. It required lots of watering this year because of the extreme drought and record high temperatures.

Added more Camelid Manure in the compost bin. Now it will be watered and stired :) Let the compost process begin :)

The liquid plant food is "cooking" very well. It's such an awesome product loaded with rich nutrients that make all of the plants thrive soooo well its AMAZING :)

Even with the drought and extreme high temperatures my herb garden is in full bloom and in a few days ready to harvest.

Enjoying The Day

Although it has been extremely hot and we had no rain all year, the animals seem to enjoy grazing the entire property. We refenced the entire property so we can let the animals out for their "Adventure Time" and grazing so it saves us from having to cut the grass.

Even "Grace" seems to be doing well. I hope to be able to place the catch rope on her in a couple of weeks. She just seems to really had a traumatic life before she moved in with us.

All the others are doing great as well. everyone is standing in line in the evening for their cool rinse from the hose. Hopefuly the weather person is right that we will have some rain coming in soon and the temperatures will drop a little.

We survived the Fall Home & Garden Expo 2011

Oh yeah. Stan and I attended the Expo in Austin Texas August 26-28. It was a real thrill to be part of such a large event.
We had lots and lots of people enjoying our booth. It was a very busy weekend indeed and very rewarding to say the least. We met such great people that we plan on attending next year again.

So now that the Expo is over I have been working on placing all the great products on the blog for ya'll to enjoy as well and even included options to purchase them if you like to.

Hey, everyone lots of news at the Herb & Yarn Barn :) Last weekend Stan & I picked up 4 new fiber boys that will be a great addition to our herd. All 4 boys are extremely friendly and will show there beautiful faces at events that we are planning to attend. Stay tuned for our schedule where you can find us.

This is Winston, he is 1 1/2 years old and was just shorn. He is multi colored wich I am very excited about. This will make great wool I am sure.
He is absolutely wonderful and greets me every morning when I am outside visiting the pastures:)

Meet Casanova, he is the same age as Winston and just a joy. Like his name he is a lover and playful as well as happy being around all the other young boys. He seems as he was white in fiber but after close inspection it seems as he is a very light cream color. I am excited his fiber is sooooo incredibly cuddly soft :)

Hello to Tabasco ( tan ) and Axel Rose ( Dark Brown ). Both of them are the most delightful alpacas you ever meet. Tabasco is the most passive alpaca that I have met so far. They are both young males also and love to run and play with the others.

Busy with Spring Preperations

Finally, shearing of the animals is done, well almost. Annabelle our 6 month old cria still has to receive her first haircut and get haltered. She is surely a little pistol and I am trying to give her a little time, maybe I need the time more then her :)
The herbs are already growing very well and I wish for rain everyday but so far we only had rain one day. The animals are all happy now that they had there haircut and the weather seems to be warming up really good.
Cuzco, was picked up last Saturday to join his new owner. He will be productive as a pack llama in New Mexico. We are so proud :)

I have been very busy preparing fiber and mixing up tea mixtures and herbal mixtures for our four legged friends, you will have the pleasure soon to see alot of my creations. So stay tuned and enjoy this beautiful time of renewal.

A Productive Weekend :)

Wow, the weekend surely passed quickly. It was pretty warm again and we sheared alpacas. We did have to cut the shearing time short on our "Leaf", he really was not in the mood I think so I have to finish him up this week. Still a few to go and haltering "Annabelle" our 6 month cria is also on the agenda this week. It rained a little bit this morning but not enough to talk too much about. The weather seems cool today from what we had the last few days and the wind is really "kicking". Everyone out in the pastures approves the cooler temperatures today. It is just too funny to see them all pouncing through the pastures, it just really shows their happiness.
We picked up the plastic pools this weekend also and I am sure that everyone will enjoy once we fill them with cool water.
I am busy getting ready to increase the Animal Wellness Inventory with wellness treats, herbal mixtures and topical ointments and oils.

It has been a busy week. With all the planting, fiber preperation, wool spinning, filling orders to name a few of my tasks I am ready to start the weekend. It will be a very exciting one, I am sure. Tomorrow morning 6 am I will be heading out to Wimberley TX to attend a 2 day Camelid Dynamics Clinic with Marty McGee Bennett. It will be a very educational weekend to say the least.
Still there are a few more hours to go until then so I am going to have to get busy mixing up Equine Wellness Supplements for a client, fill orders and card wool. .
It is such a lovely day again today way to nice to be inside but what has to be done needs to get done. So I will pull up my big girl panties and get busy.

Organic, Pure & Fresh

Yes, it's certainly spring in our beautiful Texas Hill Country and we are very busy with planting the vegi and herb garden.

There is also still plenty of wool that is in the works on being washed, dried and spun.

I am so excited to be able to attend Marty McGee Bennetts first Camelid Dynamics Workshop the end of this month. It is going to be at the "Old Oaks Ranch" in Wimberley Texas and I am looking forward to meet with more Llama & Alpaca Enthusiasts.

Also....for the last few month I have been mixing up a nutritional supplement for the Camelids and it has certainly shown great results on their fiber, energy & health.
